Our Foundation

The Foundation for Center for Research of Whales is a non-profit corporation registered in the State of Washington in the USA and is an IRS tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation. We devote 80% of our operating income/donations to environmental education and research in the coastal region of Ecuador. Education is at the heart of the foundation. One component of this education involves research in and around the area in order to expand upon the current knowledge and share it with the community and world at large. The foundation is associated with whale, dolphin, coral, aviary and archeological research and the preservation of scientific knowledge in and around Puerto Lopez, Ecuador, a small fishing village located on the coast, in the province of Manabí (See Google Earth Image).

"To feel a whale close to you may be the most exciting experience of your life! Come visit Ecuador, my country... at its purest" (C. Castro)

The Foundation's Mission has Two Distinct Areas of Focus:

Focus One:
To encourage and promote environmental education in school-aged children by providing the resources and experience necessary for success. These students will become the future leaders of many third world countries, and by providing them with knowledge concerning their fragile ecosystem, they can begin to instill environmental change, as they grow into the role of future leaders in their country.

Focus Two:
To support environmental research associated with either the establishment of a baseline of knowledge or a preservation of the current knowledge of the Ecuador ecosystem. For instance, since Ecuador is situated on the equator, and given the current issues surrounding global warming, is the ecosystem affected by global warming? For example; A small change with the weather patterns of this relatively stable climate could have huge ramifications on the plant and animal life by….This foundation sees a need to preserve data already researched within the region as well as to continually support on-going research.
